Biographical Information

I grew up near the German city of Recklinghausen and attended the Gymnasium (academic high school) there. After graduation, I traveled and lived in different countries, for ex. Israel, Norway, and the United States. Then I studied English and German in Konstanz (southern Germany) to become a teacher. After my "Zwischenprüfung" (B.A.), I came to the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, to pursue graduate studies in American literature. I earned an M.A. in German Literature there in 1987 and acquired a Teacher's Licence for English and German, first in Oregon and later in Indiana. Now I teach at Hobart High School in NW Indiana. I have a daughter (Sarah) who is bilingual (German and English).

Personal Interests

I have always loved reading as well as writing my own poems and songs. I still read about an hour a day (literature as well as non-fiction) and write when I get a chance.

I also enjoy horseback riding as well as other sports such as jogging and hiking.

I like to listen to music (folk, classic, some rock and pop...pretty eclectic) and also to sing and play my guitar. During my travel and student days I earned money and made many friends playing for people.

Other Interests: Travel, Art, Politics, History, Ecology, Poetry
