Page to Bazemore -
"You're a gosh-darn fibber !"

Controversy was as much a part of the longest putt contest as it was everything else in this year's BOFMECHIAN Closed Golf Tournament.

Gene Page (pictured left receiving award) took umbrage at the suggestions of Dave Bazemore that he (Page) had batted the ball around the green several times until he could outdistance Bazemore's phenomenal downhill twenty-five foot putt.

"My first putt was about a twenty footer, uphill, and I severely misjudged it leaving myself about twenty-eight to thirty feet long. I sank that one with no trouble and took a double bogey on the hole," declared Page as veins in his neck began to appear and his temples were visibly throbbing. [A check of the records showed a triple bogey] "And, Dave Bazemore, if you say otherwise then you're a gosh-darn fibber and you can ask the good reverend Bob Skoc about it. He's my witness."

So we did.

Said Bob Skoc: "I don't have any comment about Page's putting but I do want to say this -- I'm 6 feet 11 inches tall in my stocking feet. When I put on my PeeWee Herman platform dancing shoes I'm 7 feet 5. I'm the tallest person in this tournament and have been every year since its inception. I've never received any recognition for this whatsoever. I just want you to think about that."

So we did.
